Reflexology

Reflexology is a natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the hands, ears, and feet that correspond to every organ, gland and part of the body. Through application of pressure to these reflexes, reflexology relieves tension, improves circulation and promotes the natural function of the related body parts.

In conjunction with reflexology the feet can be fine tuned with the use of kinesiology to correct shock absorbers and foot proprioceptors. The gait can also be corrected resulting in a seemingly effortless walk.

Traces of Reflexology have been found in the far east and in Egypt showing reflexology has been practiced for thousands of years. A pictograph in the physician's tomb depicts Egyptians giving and receiving reflexology. From India to China and Japan, Buddhist monks traveled and shared this ancient healing art.

Dr William Fitzgerald, the doctor who pioneered zone therapy, used reflexology in his hospital in 1913 and introduced Dr Bowers and Dr Joe Shelby Riley to the healing art. Dr Riley also authored 6 books on the topic. He shared his passion for reflexology with Eunice Ingham, who is often referred to as the "mother of reflexology". Her contribution to the world of reflexology has continued through her nephew, Dwight Byers. Mildred Carter had many books published on reflexology and modern enthusiasts Kevin and Barbara Kuntz continue to publish and research reflexology.

Reflexology can be done on the feet, hands or ears and is a safe, easy and beneficial method of treatment. Reflexology is done while sitting in a recliner chair or laying on a massage table, face up with your shoes and socks removed. Pressure is adjusted to your request, reflexology should not be painful but there may be tender spots which indicate areas that need more attention. When the session is complete you should feel relaxed and invigorated!
